Vintage dressers: antique, Mid-Century and solid-wood dressers
A vintage dresser solves two problems at once: it provides storage and gives the room character. At Hauptstadt Möblerei, you will always find over 300 refurbished dressers, from the Biedermeier dresser made of cherry wood and the Gründerzeit dresser made of oak to the Mid-Century dresser made of teak on slender legs. Each dresser is an original made of solid wood or genuine wood veneer, inspected in our Berlin workshop.
Dressers by design
- Chest of drawers: Three to six drawers stacked one above another, the classic choice for the bedroom.
- Linen chest: Taller and deeper, with large drawers. During the Gründerzeit period, often with a marble top.
- Highboard: Dresser with doors and drawers. Mid-Century highboards often have a bar compartment or a drop-front desk. See Highboards.
- Hallway dresser: Narrow and shallow, often Biedermeier half-cabinets or small Art Deco dressers.
- Dresser with mirror: Vanity dressers and English dressing tables made of mahogany.
Antique dresser, Biedermeier, Gründerzeit or Mid-Century?
Baroque dressers (18th century and reproduction furniture) are curved, with inlays and brass fittings; see Baroque. Biedermeier dressers (1815–1848) are straight-lined and light-colored, made of cherry, birch or walnut, and are considered the most elegant form of antique dresser. Gründerzeit dressers (around 1880) are darker and more substantial, often with columns. Art Deco dressers shine in walnut or birch with geometric shapes; see Art Deco. Mid-Century dressers made of teak or rosewood stand on legs and have a light appearance; see Mid Century. And English chests of drawers made of mahogany bring the Chippendale- and Regency styles into your home.

Frequently asked questions about vintage chests of drawers
Is a vintage chest of drawers sturdy enough for everyday use?
Yes. Old chests of drawers are made of solid wood and are often sturdier than new chipboard furniture. We check the carcass, back panel, and drawer runners.
Which chest of drawers suits a modern bedroom?
Mid-century chests of drawers made of teak or Biedermeier chests of drawers made of light cherry wood. Both have a calm look and go well with white, gray, and wood. Matching bedside tables can be found in our own collection.
What is the difference between a chest of drawers and a sideboard?
A chest of drawers is usually taller than it is wide and mainly has drawers. A sideboard is wider than it is tall and combines doors with drawers. The boundaries are fluid.
Can I view the chest of drawers before purchasing?
Anytime in Berlin-Lichtenberg during opening hours. Online, photos from all perspectives and the precise dimensions provided for each piece are helpful.
